About the Hollies

Amanda and Tim have lived at the property for 15 years. Situated in the village of Cheddleton and consisting of a detached house approximately 100 years old, two acres of garden and a further field of some eight acres.

The History

The previous owners had laid much of the garden out however, as the years had gone by large areas of it had become overgrown and abandoned.  Amanda and Tim wanted to bring these areas back to life before making their many changes and additions.

Over the years many features have been added to the garden including a stream which runs right

through the garden attracting a variety of wildlife, a large pond which is home to a good number of now pretty large fish.

A specific wildlife area was established in 2007 which includes a further large pond, bog garden (in the making) and various borders filled with a variety of plants.

Tim has an extensive nursery area and grows many of his plants from seed and cuttings.

A vegetable plot is currently being developed in an area of the adjoining field.  Now in its third year, a full “grow your own” solution is in site.

The views surrounding the Hollies are spectacular giving site towards the Churnet Valley and surrounding hills and farm land, looking back over the older part of the village up to St. Edwards’s Church, which dates back to 1450.

Following many years of opening as part of Cheddleton Open Gardens, in 2006 Hollies Garden was invited to the NGS (gardens open for charity)  Hollies Garden opens for a number of charitable fund raising events, please check our events page for details of 2010.

See our Peter Rabbit Garden

Amanda has designed  a small but  beautiful Peter Rabbit Garden.  Although the garden is still in the early stages it is the start of wonderful things.  Children will enjoy seeing Peter Rabbit and his friends.
